Antique European Sunstone Egg Pendant set in 18k Gold
In the 1890s, affluent Russian families began giving girls an egg pendant each year before Easter. She’d wear them on a chain from Easter to Ascension Day, and over time the growing necklace sentimentally marked the years until her marriage. As an example of one of these necklaces, I've included a photograph of necklace made entirely of Fabergé eggs (source Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum).
This sunstone egg pendant was likely part of that tradition. Egg is carved from a beautiful sunstone with pinks, oranges, and cream colors swirled with metallic looking sparkles known as aventurescence.
Egg diameter measures 10.6mm and overall length with ring is 26mm. Gold setting is stamped as 18 karat however it tests higher at 22 karat. Overall weight is 2.99 grams and the piece is in very good antique condition.

I saw it. I fell in love with it. I had to have it. With a short text and a phone call to Jill, it became mine. I truly did not think that it would be possible for me to wear this beautiful piece as the original rolo-link chain that the stone hung from was only 16.5 inches in length. I needed at least a 20 inch chain. Undaunted, Jill told me that she would look for a longer chain in the same rolo-link style but with a lobster clasp that I prefer. Not long after I received a video showcasing the longer chain that Jill had found to replace the original shorter one. After giving her my enthusiastic approval, I had the pendant on the new longer chain within a day or two, and it was perfect.
