Two 18k gold droplet scarf or hat pins - Sweden 1920s

Welcome to my jewelry box. I have a fondness for fine yet wearable solid gold and silver jewelry. In particular I love high quality bracelets from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Italy. I import the best pieces from Europe, to wear and to share.

Over one hundred years old, these beautiful handmade gold pins are examples of gold's unique ductility. That is, gold has a special trait (ductility) in that it can be drawn into long strong strands. Ductility is one of the reasons goldsmiths find it wonderful to form gold into chain (chain is made from long strands, eg wire).

Ductility is also what makes it possible to have a thin elegant long yet strong pin made from a single droplet of gold. 

Each of these radiant pins measures approximately 2.5 inches long and 4-5mm in diameter at the head. Pins have a spiral groove around their middle which serves to keep the pin where it's placed. Use them to elegantly pin your silk scarf in place or perhaps a corsage? 

I love the handmade shaping of these pins. You can feel the craftsmanship when you roll the pins between your fingers. 

Surprisingly after 100 years they are still sharp!
