RARE Antique Mariner Link 18k Gold Watch Chain Necklace with 14k Gold Clasps - 15.5 inch length

Mariner links were traditionally worn by sailors for good luck, stability and a connection to the sea. The oval link with crossbar follows the same form as industrial chains used to literally anchor ships. This is a STRONG link.

Necklace measures 15.5 inches long by 5.6mm wide. This mariner link chain is made entirely of 18k solid gold. Victorian era clasps test as 14k gold and work perfectly. Interestingly the clasps are older than the chain. Watch chain clasps were designed to be easy to replace as they would wear out with regular use. 

Links are solid and substantial. Overall weight is a very nice 22.57 grams. Excellent condition with normal age related wear.

Piece is long enough to be worn as a high necklace or doubled as a bracelet. Have fun adding connectors or extenders to play with the length, and of course use the dog clip and large spring clasp to show off your charm collection! I've included a number of inspiration photos for styling ideas.
