18k gold Swedish medal for “Zealous and Devoted Service of the Realm”
Perhaps you have devoted yourself zealously to some type of service? If so, you may wish to honor yourself with a gold medal!
An 18k gold medal from the Swedish state awarded for “Zealous and Devoted Service of the Realm”. The first known awarding took place in 1830.
One side of this gold medal has a portrait in relief of King Gustaf in profile, the reverse side with text. A royal crown of solid gold sits atop the medal.
The Swedish government has a tradition of awarding medals for a variety of achievements for instance: Courage, Civic Virtue, Wounded in Battle, and my favorite, Diligent Reindeer Husbandry.
This medal would have been awarded to someone after 30 years of public service. Typically it would have been mounted to a ribbon, in the formal military style, but this one has been converted to a pendant for daily wear. I love that it didn’t just collect dust in a case all these years - it’s been worn to a wonderful soft patina and has lots of life left.

I saw it. I fell in love with it. I had to have it. With a short text and a phone call to Jill, it became mine. I truly did not think that it would be possible for me to wear this beautiful piece as the original rolo-link chain that the stone hung from was only 16.5 inches in length. I needed at least a 20 inch chain. Undaunted, Jill told me that she would look for a longer chain in the same rolo-link style but with a lobster clasp that I prefer. Not long after I received a video showcasing the longer chain that Jill had found to replace the original shorter one. Jill’s video contained dialogue with close-ups of the chain as she dangled it over and through her fingers. After giving her my enthusiastic approval, I had the pendant on the new longer chain within a day or two, and it was perfect. I wore my beautiful quartz pendant for the first time on Mother’s Day and received several compliments on it. Thank you, Jill, for making my wish come true. ❤️
