Swedish Antique Longuard Chain as Double Length Necklace in 18k gold - 21 inch length
This long chain is what's known as a guard, longuard or muff chain. They were popular in the Victorian era and women would wear them in various configurations, doubling or tripling the long length for different looks. This one has an added spring clasp that makes it easy to wear as a double length chain with a free moving dog clip that drapes in front (for your charms perhaps?).
Doubled length drapes approximately 21.5 inches with an added 2 cm drop for the dog clip. Overall chain length is approximately 43 inches.
Chain is made of solid 765 gold (slightly more than 18k gold) with a link pattern of one long trombone link then 9 small curb links. The color is wonderfully rosey. Links are 2mm wide and the chain closes with a secure 18k gold spring clasp. 18k gold swivel dog clip is well working and secure.
A gorgeous and versatile antique chain for your collection!
Spring clasp can easily be removed if you like.

The pendant may have come earlier, but I retrieved it yesterday evening …. and I L O V E it! Here you can see it on the rounded box chain which complements the rounded triangle of the pendant. How wonderful is that! It’s like “They were meant to go together.” Because they are both 18 K gold, the color-match is perfect. Once again, Jill, we hit the bull’s eye dead center.
